Bird City Fabrics // Shop for New Fabrics, Out of Print Fabric
Posts from "February 2015"

I am now making real progress. I am learning my way around wordpress and have gotten the answers from the guys at F5 Themes. They have given really great service. I am done installing and now am just tweaking things. Now that I am cooking along, I think I will change the focus of the blog to more things fabric related.

Still working on the new website. I want to get it up and running and leave ebay forever. There are too many problems to deal with there. But I am going one step at a time. I have run into a problem installing something so I am waiting for the f5 theme administrator to see what is going on. Nothing is ever plug and play like you are told. It should look beautiful when I get it all together.

I have found new and beautiful fabric – I find new stuff all of the time from the fabric shop that I bought. It was a shop in the next little town over (McDonald,KS) that had been there for years. When the guys moved all of it to it’s current location, it was all jumbled and no organization at all. I can’t say that I have gotten in organized better – I haven’t even seen some of the stuff. I need to go through the boxes of notions and buttons and thread and lace and fat quarters, and on an on. There was a lot more stuff in that little shop than I knew.

I write these posts in the hope that my potential customers will get to know me better. I really love what I do and I want to do more. Right now the posts may be a little silly but I will take you along on the journey that I have planned.

I have learned there’s always lots more.  It gets overwhelming.

Well, my blog doesn’t have a theme yet because I am still deciding.  Do I want to blog for a while and then move to an ecommerce site or do I just want to dive right in and create an ecommerce site from the beginning?  I have spent the last couple of days on research, tutorials, shopping (for themes and carts).  I did find a good resource for learning to design a wordpress site called Instant WordPress.  You download the program to your pc and then you can work on design from there and don’t have to be online to learn how to use WP.  I have just started messing around with it.  It’s a big learning curve for me.  More as I learn more.

I had some trouble installing Word Press on my new website – it’s supposed to be so simple!!!  Maybe not for novices like me.  I have had a website for a number of years but I have used a very simple website editor.  Now I would like to do some new things with this website so I will be learning how as I go along.
